GCL spring-jaw design grips flat plates, round pipes, angles, and I-beams securely. For round pipes or irregular surfaces, ensure the jaw opens wide enough to achieve firm metal-to-metal contact without slipping.
For outdoor, coastal, or monsoon-affected sites — confirm the clamp has a corrosion-resistant finish. All GCL models feature treated copper alloy construction to resist oxidation in harsh environments.
GCL clamps are compatible with SMAW, MIG/MAG, TIG, SAW, and Carbon Arc Gouging machines. Match the current rating to the process in use.
Check the jaw contact faces, spring, and cable lug connection regularly. Worn or pitted contact surfaces reduce clamping effectiveness — replace components before they cause weld quality issues.
Verify the cable lug connection is tight before each use. Loose connections arc internally — causing heat damage to the clamp body and cable insulation.
Store in a dry, protected location. Avoid coiling cables too tightly around the clamp body. Moisture ingress at the lug joint causes corrosion that progressively increases return resistance.
Test jaw spring pressure periodically. A weakening spring allows the clamp to slip on curved or coated surfaces — causing arc instability and poor weld quality. Replace the spring assembly if clamping force reduces.
Never use a 200A clamp with a 400A machine. Overloaded clamps overheat, the spring weakens rapidly, and the copper contact surface erodes — replace clamps with properly rated GCL models.
