The ARC welding machine delivers DC current through the welding cable to the electrode holder.
Heavy-duty lug-type cable connection locks the welding cable securely — ensuring zero resistance at the joint.
The welding rod is clamped at one of 7 angles by the spring-loaded jaw — allowing flat, overhead, and vertical positions.
Current flows through the copper alloy body to the electrode tip — creating the arc that melts electrode and base metal to form the weld.

Always match the holder amperage rating to your welding machine output. Using an under-rated holder causes overheating, premature failure, and safety hazards.
Select the correct cable cross-section (Sq.mm) for the holder’s lug connection. Undersized cables create heat buildup and voltage drop — always match cable to current rating.
Confirm the electrode holder supports your electrode diameter range. EHL 200A & 250A handle up to 4.0mm; EHL 400A handles up to 5.0mm; EHL 600A handles up to 6.3mm rods.
For continuous welding operations, select a holder with comfortable insulated grip. APS EHL handles use heat-resistant insulation that stays cool even in prolonged use cycles.
For tight spaces or overhead positions, the 7-position grip gives welders maximum rod angle flexibility. Ensure insulation is rated for the site temperature and humidity levels.
After each use, remove slag, spatter, and debris from the holder jaw and body. Accumulated dirt interferes with current conductivity and shortens service life.
Regularly check insulation for cracks, burns, or degradation. Inspect contacts for corrosion. Replace worn insulation or damaged components promptly to prevent hazards.
Check that the welding cable lug is tightly connected. Loose connections cause arcing at the joint, damaging both cable and holder — reducing weld quality.
Store electrode holders in a dry, cool location. Moisture causes insulation degradation and corrosion at the copper contacts — especially in monsoon and coastal environments.
Never exceed the holder’s current rating. Overloading causes the handle insulation to soften, the jaw to weaken, and creates unsafe operating conditions for the welder.
Check the clamping spring periodically for fatigue or weakening. A weak spring causes electrode slip mid-weld — replace the spring or holder assembly if grip force reduces noticeably.
